Schools & Education

Asbestos building inspections and management planning for local education agencies (LEAs) across Northeast Ohio, including public schools, private nonprofit schools, and schools operated by the US Department of Defense serving kindergarten through grade 12.

AHERA
Federal Requirement

The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act requires local education agencies (LEAs), public schools, private nonprofit schools, and Department of Defense schools serving kindergarten through grade 12, to have certified asbestos inspections and written management plans.

Ohio EPA
State Oversight

Ohio EPA enforces AHERA requirements for LEAs in Ohio and requires certified inspectors and management planners.

Re-Inspection
Every 3 Years

AHERA requires LEAs to conduct periodic reinspections of asbestos-containing materials every three years to monitor condition and update management plans.

Schools & Education

Protecting Students, Staff, and Facilities

School buildings across Northeast Ohio were constructed during decades when asbestos-containing materials were widely used in flooring, ceiling tiles, pipe insulation, and other building components. Federal law under AHERA requires that local education agencies (LEAs) identify, assess, and manage these materials through certified inspections and written management plans.

SoCretely provides certified asbestos building inspections, bulk sampling, pre-renovation surveys, and management plan development for LEAs throughout Northeast Ohio — including public schools, private nonprofit schools, and Department of Defense schools serving kindergarten through grade 12. We help LEAs meet their regulatory obligations and protect the people who learn and work in their buildings.

Our Services for Schools

Asbestos Inspection and Management Planning

Our certified asbestos building inspectors conduct thorough visual inspections and bulk sampling of suspect materials throughout school facilities. Samples are analyzed by a partner accredited laboratory and results are documented in a complete inspection report.

Where asbestos-containing materials are identified, our certified management planners develop written asbestos management plans that document material locations, condition assessments, and operations and maintenance recommendations to keep building occupants protected.

Management Planner vs. Building Inspector

An asbestos building inspector identifies and assesses asbestos-containing materials through visual inspection and bulk sampling. A management planner takes that inspection data and develops the written management plan required by AHERA.

SoCretely provides both services, giving school districts a single point of contact for inspection through management plan completion.

Facility Types

Education Facilities We Serve

Public Schools

Public school buildings serving kindergarten through grade 12 are subject to AHERA. SoCretely provides certified asbestos building inspections and management planning to help LEAs meet their federal obligations.

Private Nonprofit Schools

Private nonprofit schools serving kindergarten through grade 12 are LEAs under AHERA and carry the same inspection and management plan requirements as public schools. We provide thorough inspections and compliant management plans.

Department of Defense Schools

Schools operated by the US Department of Defense that conduct classes for kindergarten through grade 12 are covered LEAs under AHERA. We support facilities teams with inspections, bulk sampling, and management planning.

District Administrative Buildings

Administrative offices and support facilities that are part of an LEA are subject to AHERA asbestos requirements. We provide inspections and management planning for all buildings within the LEA.

Renovation & Modernization Projects

LEA renovation and modernization projects must address asbestos-containing materials before work begins. Pre-renovation asbestos surveys and management plan updates are required before disturbing suspect materials.

Periodic Reinspections

AHERA requires LEAs to conduct periodic reinspections of known or assumed asbestos-containing materials every three years. We perform reinspections and update management plans to keep LEAs in compliance.
